The stabbing in the park had nothing to do with the center. Period. The people who repeat this lie are lying liars.

More to the point: so what if some homeless people use this to make some money? Big fucking deal. The real issue is this - yes homeowners and renters may have "Curbside Recycling" but that's not the real issue here.

The real issue is that when you buy a bottled or canned product, you are paying a fee that you are owed back when you return it. If you dump your stuff in to a recycling bin, you don't get your money back.

Big deal, right? Here's the problem - the state is now using this money like a tax. That's bullshit. People should have every opportunity to recover that CRV at any time. San Francisco has the WORST record in providing opportunities for people to get their money, that's theirs, back.

In Los Angeles, almost every grocery store had some way, usually an automated machine, that you could dump your cans and bottles in to, and get a voucher to either spend at the store, or get cash. Once I realized how much money I was losing by dumping my cans into the common recycling bin, I stopped.

These yuppie prima donnas can seriously suck it. They're just a bunch of people who paid too much for their property, and now think they're entitled to dictate terms to everyone else. Fuck that.

Last: 9/2/2010 Why is it that "The City That claims to be the leader in recycling is so eager to shoot those who started the whole "SF Recyclling Bandwagon". One would hope the "city leaders" would say "We salute the 36 years of Community Recycling by HANC, and we should work out any squabbles amicably"... Why has no one said "Lets use the SF Community Boards" to mediate, after HANC has made their case for ZZ"the good we do, that would disappear, if we do"

REA (Richmond Environment Action) had a wonderful host in the U.S.F. community, who believed in the good REA ("Cogito Ergo Recyclo"... remember that?) that REA did, starting in 1970... In 1973, along came Ed Dunn, senior, a City fireman, to take up the cause, until his death...., and his son has carried on the work, not for income, but for principal.
The scavenger company, back then, was hell bent on burning alll garbage, so as to lock up all SF's
waste stream, for 99 years.. REA and HANC stopped that, and forced them to convert to being "green" before it was a buzzword. ...Would your first choice for Veterinarian Services services be the guy who also owns the Taxidermy Shop next door, and whose motto is "Either way, you get your pet back.".... Likewise: DO NOT make "the only show in town", for recyclilng, be the city trash collector. If Google was not competing against lots of others, would they be so innovative? Puhleeze!.... Let The Chron give the HANC Recycle center as much ink as they give CW... Let there be a "neutral fact finding, and the use of the Community Boards, to address complaints.

I am sick of smelly dirtbags schlepping their treasure troves on Muni. Move or close the recycling center.
