If love makes the world go 'round, it's thumpin' music, drug paraphernalia, and a sprinkle of nudity that help make the annual end-of-summer San Francisco...

The event has been getting more and more popular every year for the last 5 years, to the point where maybe it's too popular, which can always turn any event into a pricey crowd of blah.
That said, it was EXTREMELY dishonest of the Mayor's office to use the tragedy in Germany to somehow throw mud on the organizers here. The situation at that festival was unique, especially because in that case city authorities chose to ignore their own warnings and even pleas from the organizers to help organize it better - and tragedy ensued. But that has nothing to do with this event at all, and to try and smear one like the Mayor's overpriced spin team did today was ignorance and rhetoric turned up to 11.
Watch the documentary on DW-TV some time and you'll see a true clusterf*ck in action.

I agree with Greg. While it’s undignified to capitalize on a tragedy to further one’s own agenda, it’s unforgivable to do so with mistruths. All news articles explain, simply, that a heavily fenced area with one narrow tunnel entrance led to a disastrous corral of people. It doesn’t take an educated public to see the difference between what was described in Germany and our own Civic Center festival grounds.
San Francisco’s LovEvolution came into initial existence when Germany’s Love Parade was put on hold, thus gaining the international attention it still receives. San Francisco’s inception aimed to honor Germany’s yearly tradition of bringing electronic music, through a parade, to the unique setting of an urban environment. A move to Candlestick abandons the unique urban environment. A move to Candlestick destroys the prospect for the events essential parade; the crime-ridden Bayview/Hunter’s Point neighborhoods offer little opportunity for a safe, joyous procession. With no direct BART route, Candlestick boasts a lack of transportation options for the masses of young party-goers. And, it’s cold – notoriously so. The people will not come for “San Francisco’s Love Parade” when it no longer reflects, philosophically or logistically, Love Parade. A move to Candlestick would be terminal.
It takes about as much effort to send city officials an email as it does to complain in a forum here. It’s likely more effective too.
