Wow. The statements here just blow one's mind. At least we know now SFTRU is nothing more than an auxillary to the city's labor unions, and that it clearly sees Muni advocacy as a "progressives only" cause. No room for anyone that's not already in step with the left, clearly.

So the union's solution to Muni's budget mess is to pump Washington for more money, thereby deflecting attention from Muni's exorbitant cost structure. Transparent and useless.

I think an even better move that directing money to transportation projects would be to use federal dollars to decrease the cost of riding public transit. This is a good move because it has an immediate stimulus effect and it generally impacts people who need money the most. Plus, it encourages people to take public transit, which has innumerable public benefits.
