Leave it to Muni and the S(low)FPD to take their sweet time on this.

Oh well, thanks for letting us know.

The looting of Muni via Newsom's phony work orders were his way of sending Muni money (which voters in 2007 voted to go to JUST Muni) to other departments and avoid cuts. They began using the most spurious of means to jack Muni as often as possible. Literally if a cop directed traffic and a bus drove by, they billed for the time. It had nothing to do with safety.

If you look at the reports at Everyblock or the reports issued daily by some of the captains, there is some presence, but they're not going to broadcast their undercover efforts. People made a big fucking deal about that fight on Muni just because it was on youtube. I've reported stuff like this for years and no one really gave a shit before, certainly not The Media.

I would never ask a muni driver to put himself in harm's way, but (after 23 years of city living) I've seen a lot of muni drivers who ignore situations that are escalating and getting out of control. The driver should at least stop the bus and call police, instead of doing what they usually do, which is ignore everything.

Muni is a "common carrier". “Every one who offers to the public to carry persons, property, or messages, excepting only telegraphic messages, is a common carrier of whatever he thus offers to carry.” (Civ. Code, § 2168). Under California law, the jury instruction for common carriers reads as follows: "Common carriers must use the highest care and the vigilance of a very cautious person. They must do all that human care, vigilance, and foresight reasonably can do under the circumstances to avoid harm to passengers or property."

When was the last time you saw a muni driver "do all that human care, vigilance, and foresight reasonably can do...to avoid harm to passengers"?

I certainly have no expectation that a Muni driver is going to put him/herself in harm's way to save a passenger, under any circumstance. But I do expect the overpaid sonsas to push the panic button that's supposed in every vehicle, FFS.

It's about time..
