BART and the unions seem to be in this maddening death spiral, each side talkin' war and going all medieval, neither side really willing to see the true cause of both their pain - health care "costs".
In that health care as an industry keeps getting more pricey, but the level of service goes down and most people are paying for bureaucrats who tell you why you can't get surgery (death panel??) instead of actually, you know getting health care.
If BART wasn't in the health care provider business, most of this deficit would not exist. Why the unions and BART aren't gathering pitchforks and torches, and uniting to kick the ass of the health insurance "industry" (aka the Check Cashing Industry - in that they cash your check and do nothing) is beyond me.
If we get a strike, esp. now, it's going to fry the bay area, and no one is going to be on the side of management or the unions they'll just be pissed they're stuck in traffic trying to go to school or work. epic FAIL...
