If "that's not really a fair criticism, because they're really not for the public," then they're clearly not "Experimenting with New Ways to Confuse and Misdirect," are they?

"And they're also for Muni-watchers -- the untold tens of individuals willing to put in the time to analyze the figures. We're going to be attempting some trend analysis over the next week or so, and we'll let you know if we find anything interesting."
But you brought this to the attention of a wider audience, even if you don't discover anything new and that's a success. The SFMTA Citizen's Advisory Council has been pushing to make these public for a while and while they are really shitty, just getting the internal status report public is a step in the right direction.
Now it's on to "phase 2" getting smart people outside SFMTA to see what they can make of this, and put the pressure on to get data out in a better format.

The good stuff is on the Operator Absenteeism page. I like how 'other reasons' include 'birthday'.
