Chimps Don't Use Muni: Rise Of the Planet Of the Apes
"Rise of the Planet of the Apes" is a prequel and a remake. Kind of. I'm not entirely sure if it's supposed to be...

the premise of the movie is incredibly flawed - there simply aren't enough apes, either in SF or the ENTIRE WORLD to have an "uprising," Cylon style. Out of the (many) proposed "remakes" of Ape movies, this one has to be one of the worst yet. At least the one where the apes actually lived on another planet and had a lab where they copied TV signals to learn stuff was funny.

Even commercials for King Kong made me so sad I couldn't see it! And, in a self-indulgent point that will interest no one, admitting that got me my first nasty internet comment ever. Which I obviously am NOT holding on to AT ALL.

Hey Greg--
Well, it's a little more plausible in this movie, but I left out that part because it's kind of a whopping spoiler. Let's just say, the ratio of humans to apes isn't supposed to stay the same should a sequel happen...

I just saw the trailer. The large domed structure from which all the apes escape bears a resemblance to the 184inch Cyclotron building in Berkeley. There is some history of using real Bay Area science buildings for various films. Tron used the LLNL Shiva laser to put Jeff Bridges in the video game. The "Forbin Project" used the Lawrence Hall of Science. So, did "Rise of the Planet of the Apes" use another Bay Area landmark, perhaps with some CG assist? Just wondering.
