Appealing Events: "Why I Ride: Low and Slow" film screening
Lowriding was actually made illegal in San Francisco during the Feinstein mayoral administration, when all all left turns off Mission Street from 16th up to 30th were completely outlawed to stop the lowrider trains.
This Friday join Conscious Youth Media Crew at the de Young for a free world premiere film screening of "Why I Ride: Low and Slow," the "untold history" of the Mission's lowrider culture.
The film, which features the voices of Mission District street historians Roberto Hernandez, Valerie Tulier, Felipe Velez, Mitchell Salazar, and Sandy Cuadra, promises to "document the history of street culture and low-riding in the Mission when anti-low-rider traffic laws, police aggression, and stereotypes changed the dynamics of the community."
