Wow, very awesome idea! Yet another reason bikes rock! And credit unions... I've had great service at Pedal Revolution, and their social mission would just round out the aweseomeness of this transaction...

Credit unions and bikes are great. I love them.
However, if one cannot afford to purchase a stylish single-speed at $800, I would suggest searching out one of the abundant $200-300 beaters on craigslist. Even if you have to replace the brakes or the chain, it's worth it. It may even make you feel like less of a poser once you graduate to a fashionable ride--you will have earned it.
